Who knew? Seriously. That’s what I thought after spending two very fine evenings at the Courtyard Embassy Row on the southwest side of Scott Circle, just a block from where I used to live for eight years. Sitting in the former NRA building, this square shaped unassuming building lays very much under the radar in the Washington hospitality community but perhaps it should not! It’s not an ordinary highway exit type Courtyard at all. It’s a full service, business class hotel with spacious, well appointed guest rooms, a very user friendly lobby, a hotel with a fair amount of meeting space, fitness room, indoor pool and a chef driven full service restaurant! Who knew?
I found the staff to be wonderfully engaging, from the front desk who called up to make sure I was satisfied with my suite to the restaurant host who made sure my guest and I were sent home wit with fresh muffins for breakfast the next morning. How could I not be satisfied either? It was a spacious suite and my windows overlooked a picturesque Scott Circle peppered with snow, as well as view of my former apartment building, the Latrobe, just one block away.
I happened to visit Washington on what might wind up being the coldest week of the year. With wind chill temperatures were hovering just at or just below zero. But the warmth of the hospitality inside coupled with the tasty food in the restaurant, kept me plenty warm during my short stay.
