I wasn’t sure how or when it would happen. That moment when you realize that nothing else matters. Nothing is close to as important. The big things are now small things. And my one small thing is the biggest thing by far. I’m a dad. It’s my only job. The only job where no matter how prepared I think I am, I can’t be. The only job where every day is guaranteed to surprise me. The only job that won’t ever disappoint me. The only job whose rewards are endless and boundless.
I love my day job, I do. To be self employed and supporting my family is a luxury for which I couldn’t be a lot more grateful. But no matter how important that job is to me, it will always take a second seat. I’ll be sure always to get another squeeze from my son before picking up the phone when it rings. He’s first, always. Trust me, your call is important to me, but your call will be answered in the order it was received.
