I was employed by Millennium Hotels from 1998-2003. I was employed by Kimpton Hotels from 2003-2007. How is it that in a blink of an eye, I’ve now been self employed longer than either of my previous tenures. On April Fool’s Day 2007 I began a venture which has now brought me seven years of continuous joy. Hotel Lobbyists is seven years old this month!
I set out to start my own business because I had the idea that I could better serve my then existing clientele by being independent and not tied to any one brand in any one city. That idea has served me well and is still the driving force behind my business plan today. I still work with a great number of clients I’d worked with from day zero. And the portfolio has expanded through wonderful referrals and a lot of hard work uncovering opportunities on my own. The part that was established was that I could sell hotels – I had already been doing it for nearly a decade. The part which was lesser known was whether I could run my own business. I imagine that a lot of folks venture out because they have a superior skill only to find out that running a business isn’t their forte. As it turns out, I’m still enamored by every aspect, big or small, about running my own business. It doesn’t hold me back – it drives me. I consider it the reason my business is still growing, now in its eighth year.
There are too many to list to thank in this seven year journey. You know who you are. Looking forward to the blog entry seven years from now – or whatever blogs will be in the year 2021!
