When the National Board of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals, for whom I serve as Treasurer, meets at headquarters, we are often housed in different Alexandria hotels. For the first time, I had an opportunity last week to stay at one of the busiest and most successful Old Town Alexandria hotels, the Hilton Alexandria Old Town.
This hotel is located adjacent to the King Street metro stop in Alexandria, in fact half of the hotel rooms here face the Metro. This puts the hotel close to some dining and antique shopping, but the primary hustle and bustle of King Street is several blocks to the East. That made is a fine oasis to return to each day after lengthy agendas of meetings. The Hilton does incredible social business as well as meetings business. They have a Starbucks and a bar and restaurant off the lobby and all of their meeting space is easily accessed not far from the front door.
Guest rooms are nicely appointed with upscale standard Hilton products. The hotel blends into its historic surrounding with its red brick façade but in no way is the hotel historic itself. As one of the largest hotels in Old Town, it’s a staple for sure for groups needing a little extra space. Count on the Hilton as a sturdy, high performer for business to Alexandria or even to the District given its proximity to the metro.
