\"\"<\/a>I\u2019ve felt so fortunate in recent days to be staying at some of the nation\u2019s finest hotels and resorts.\u00a0 Gone are my youthful days flipping through AAA guide books trying to find that gem of a 2-diamond motor inn that impress at the off chance they\u2019d made serious improvements since their last evaluation.\u00a0 Long behind me are days of partially bringing my own bedding because the cleanliness and comfort of those with which I\u2019d be snuggling were in question.\u00a0 I no longer need to pack flip-flops for walking around the bathroom.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve flat out been staying at nice hotels for the last decade.<\/p>\n

But how nice is nice?\u00a0 I\u2019m not one of those who consider the use of the word \u201cnice\u201d clich\u00e9 or redundant or clich\u00e9 or redundant (J).\u00a0 I think I\u2019ve experience three levels of nice.\u00a0<\/p>\n

First, consider that when on travel, I can no longer consider staying at any property which isn\u2019t at comforting as the place I call home.\u00a0 Using my home as a baseline for nice \u2013 anywhere I stay that isn\u2019t at least as nice as where I live is regrettable.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A hotel which exceeds my expectation in multiple ways is \u201csuper nice\u201d.\u00a0 Any hotels with any combination of their own brand of bedding, customized toiletries, unique shower heads, fine spa facilities, a handsome lobby, elegant furnishings, pleasing color schemes, desirable restaurants, kind staff, refreshing scents, or inspiring views \u2013 to me is a super nice place to stay.\u00a0 Because my apartment does not share in an abundance of these amenities.\u00a0 When I call home to my parents and report on how cozy the pillows were, I\u2019m speaking of a hotel that was super nice.\u00a0 The vast majority of hotels I book my clients in for conferences, use for my family and friends, and stay in personally would fall into the category of super nice.<\/p>\n

But we must explore the two wonderful levels beyond super nice.\u00a0 The next level up is a place I\u2019ll describe as \u201csilly nice\u201d.\u00a0 I hesitate to use specific examples, so excuse my bias temporarily, but the following hotels I\u2019ve stayed at recently are \u201csilly nice\u201d:\u00a0 Westin Moana, Bellagio, Greenbrier.\u00a0 Silly nice hotels can\u2019t help but make you smile.\u00a0 The amenities here are at a level which literally leaves you tickled and often asking, \u201chow am I here?\u201d\u00a0 When I sit on the bench of my historic room, listening to crashing waves and staring out of two windows at the bluest sea I\u2019ve ever seen, it\u2019s silly.\u00a0 When I gaze out my window, with the backdrop of the Vegas strip lit up like the Vegas strip (only simile which makes sense here) at a fountain show which still gives me chills every time I witness it, it\u2019s silly.\u00a0 When I walk through the endless hallways of a luxury resort from a time long ago, where Gone With the Wind meets the White House, it\u2019s silly.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And finally, there are those extremely rare hotels I classify in the category of \u201cstupid nice\u201d.\u00a0 These hotels are so above and beyond my expectations, they wow on so many levels, that while I\u2019m giddy from them being silly nice, I also feel nearly idiotic for being there.\u00a0 Again, pardon my bias, but I\u2019d call Wynn and Encore stupid nice in my humble opinion.\u00a0 When my hotel has a Ferrari dealership and when my room has its own spa treatment room in it, I\u2019m feeling quite clownish.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

So don\u2019t fear the word \u201cnice\u201d.\u00a0 I won\u2019t even stop you from using it.\u00a0 I\u2019ll just maybe ask for clarification the next time you decide to use it.\u00a0 How nice?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
