{"id":1533,"date":"2011-01-31T18:32:59","date_gmt":"2011-01-31T18:32:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/?p=227"},"modified":"2011-01-31T18:32:59","modified_gmt":"2011-01-31T18:32:59","slug":"find-your-backstage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/index.php\/2011\/01\/31\/find-your-backstage\/","title":{"rendered":"Find Your Backstage"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/goofy2.bmp\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-228\" title=\"goofy2\" src=\"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/03\/goofy2.bmp\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a>A business establishment can\u2019t lose credibility faster than when one employee is arguing with another employee in the customer\u2019s view.\u00a0 Or even if the hint of the argument is brought into the customer\u2019s reality \u2013 in other words, throwing a colleague \u201cunder the bus\u201d.\u00a0 Internal conflict should be shielded from the customer in every conceivable way.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The end user doesn\u2019t want to know if the valets and the front desk of hotel are in a disagreement \u2013 they want to know their car will be returned without a scratch and that they will be able to check into their room at the prescribed time.\u00a0 And the end user most certainly doesn\u2019t want to know if you\u2019re having a bad day or if you despise your job.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>An extreme view of this came from a story I was told about working at Disney some time ago.\u00a0 A colleague of mine had spent a summer as Goofy.\u00a0 Literally, my associate went to work each day of the 100+ degree summer, dressed himself in a 50lb Goofy Costume complete with flannels, suspenders, and a furry, head to toe get-up.\u00a0 Inside that costume the temperature must have reached 130 degrees.\u00a0 Once, Goofy leaned on a nearby fence and a supervisor was quick to approach and scold.\u00a0\u00a0 Goofy doesn\u2019t lean on fences.\u00a0 Goofy needs to go \u201cbackstage\u201d if he wants to do anymore leaning.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s about messing with the consumer\u2019s reality.\u00a0 Don\u2019t let them see you fighting.\u00a0 Find your backstage.\u00a0 Business travel is stressful enough without involving the paying customer in operational drama.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A business establishment can\u2019t lose credibility faster than when one employee is arguing with another employee in the customer\u2019s view.\u00a0 Or even if the hint of the argument is brought into the customer\u2019s reality \u2013 in other words, throwing a colleague \u201cunder the bus\u201d.\u00a0 Internal conflict should be shielded from the customer in every conceivable [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[2,1],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.3 -
