\"\"<\/a>There\u2019s a new affliction hitting productive Americans in the work force.\u00a0 Each year, mine has gotten worse.\u00a0 And I know I\u2019m not alone.\u00a0 In the age of increased technological innovation, it\u2019s become insufficient, it\u2019s become lazy even, to be doing just one task at a time.\u00a0 And I\u2019m not speaking about walking and chewing gum at the same time.\u00a0 Oh no, my condition is far more serious.<\/p>\n

I suffer from Multi-Tasking Disorder (MTD), where I\u2019m not content, I\u2019m not performing at the level I desire, unless I\u2019m doing two, three, ten things at once.\u00a0 It is not uncommon for me to have my laptop open to my reading an important email and to a report I\u2019m adding data to from that email, my desktop open to GoogleMaps and TripAdvisor, my printer printing an invoice I just prepared, me sending a text to my lunch appointment that our reservations are set, and while waiting on hold to speak to my sales person at a key hotel.\u00a0 If I had a third hand I could conceivably be playing the keyboard.\u00a0 And what\u2019s worse \u2013 this is all taking place in the car!\u00a0 (Kidding of course).<\/p>\n

The point is, we are at a point in our professional age, where doing ten tasks at once isn\u2019t overachieving anymore.\u00a0 It\u2019s completely possible and expected.\u00a0 And frankly, if I\u2019m not doing all then things at once, then I don\u2019t feel busy or productive.\u00a0 There\u2019s no escaping this with all of the innovations that are being made constantly.\u00a0 And there\u2019s no known cure other than vacation.<\/p>\n

And even then, well I could be checking my email from the beach while making reservations for dinner and ordering a drink on the sand and\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
