{"id":379,"date":"2011-09-05T12:20:36","date_gmt":"2011-09-05T12:20:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/?p=379"},"modified":"2011-09-05T12:20:36","modified_gmt":"2011-09-05T12:20:36","slug":"per-diem-rates-set","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/index.php\/2011\/09\/05\/per-diem-rates-set\/","title":{"rendered":"Per Diem Rates Set"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/GSAlogo1.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-381\" title=\"GSAlogo\" src=\"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/GSAlogo1.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"138\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>It\u2019s a precarious time of year \u2013 the last week of August.\u00a0 This is roughly the time each year when GSA publishes the next fiscal year\u2019s per diem rates for cities all across the United States.\u00a0 The rates take affect at the beginning of the fiscal year, also my birthday, October 1<sup>st<\/sup> and they run through the following September 30<sup>th<\/sup>.\u00a0 But this one day when the rates are set has ramifications worth millions and millions of dollars.<a href=\"http:\/\/hotel-lobbyists.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/10\/GSAlogo.gif\"><\/a><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Consider Washington, DC for example \u2013 and note that this is a rather extreme example.\u00a0 In 2010, the federal per diem rate for Washington, DC in the month of January was a relatively robust $207.\u00a0 For 2011, that rate was dropped to $181.\u00a0 The difference of $26 is substantial enough, but now consider the revenue loss for a hotel that has a block of 50 rooms reserved for four nights.\u00a0 That\u2019s a $5,200 loss with no recourse whatsoever, provided the contract was signed with the terms, \u201cor prevailing per diem\u201d.\u00a0 And just about all locales, all hotels, and all third parties suffered through substantial losses on this day last year.<\/p>\n<p>But 2012 was a slightly different story.\u00a0 Because on that very same day, all of the above mentioned parties who stand to lose when times are suddenly bad, stand to gain when the economy levels out.\u00a0 This year most locales stayed flat to their previous per diems or took on slight increases.\u00a0 Washington, DC was one market, which deservedly took a hearty gain.\u00a0 There may wind up being just as many years where this fateful day is celebrated with gains from seemingly out of nowhere as there are when the day means tightening one\u2019s belt for next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Consider the cycle of evolving per diems over the course of many years to be roughly even.\u00a0 But each year, prepare to adjust the next year\u2019s projections based on GSA\u2019s publishing per diem rates on this day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It\u2019s a precarious time of year \u2013 the last week of August.\u00a0 This is roughly the time each year when GSA publishes the next fiscal year\u2019s per diem rates for cities all across the United States.\u00a0 The rates take affect at the beginning of the fiscal year, also my birthday, October 1st and they run [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[2,1],"tags":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v20.3 -
