The Madison Hotel, once the Loews Madison Hotels, then recently the Madison Hotel by Destination Hotels and Resorts, is now once again going to be operated by Loews Hotels! This breaking news is great for Loews who regains a presence in the Washington, DC market and now with a brand new, renovated product. The Madison was always a fine property, but after a top-to-bottom renovation, from guest rooms, to restaurant concept, to lobby space, to meeting space, the Madison is now one of the finer luxury level properties in the city.
It is still by no means the most luxurious property in the city. But what I like most about this hotel at the corner of 15th and M Streets is that is plays in the luxury market without being a luxury hotel itself. The Madison competes with the finest of them on certain days – the Ritz-Carlton, the Willard Intercontinental, but it also readily competes with the Doubletree Washington , the Capital Hilton, and the Hotel Palomar. It’s deceivingly affordable and wonderfully reliable.
Their renovation is exquisite. The lobby is impressive now with different areas in which to convene, plus a reinvented food and beverage concept. In addition to having a breakfast restaurant and a full bar in their lobby, they also have an adjacent chef-driven restaurant called The Federalist (formerly Palette) as well as a convenient grab-n-go, coffee shop. They have outlets to suit any customer’s speed and price point. And that plays to their primary market – the meetings market. How easy is it for a meetings guest to descend the marvelous staircase from the second floor, where all the meeting rooms live, to the lobby level for some quick bites.
The room renovation is also quite handsome. Their new scheme is much more modern but still plays to the customer who prefers traditional stylings. Primary colors are reds and grays. The hotel has an historic bent too, without actually being an historic structure.
The Madison is a fine choice for that discerning business traveler to Washington. It has a tremendous amount of convenience, it now has a national brand affiliation again, and it consistently delivers on top end service and luxury level amenities without exorbitant pricing.
