A hotel that consistently gets the buzz of great service just across the river from downtown Washington is the Sheraton Crystal City. In many ways this cement clad single tower lies very much under the radar in a city lined with apartment buildings, office buildings and hotels all built around the same time. But what lies within the walls of this otherwise nondescript property are what makes it so highly desirable.
The Sheraton’s lobby has a fresh look consistent with new Sheraton’s complete with friendly desk agents, helpful bellmen and their signature Link which allows guests areas to mingle as well as use the complimentary internet workstations. The Link leads right to a small bar and then into their restaurant. Meeting space is found mostly on the second floor and it’s here where the hotel makes their name. Their meeting service is top notch and they serve a great number of repeat clientele.
Guests rooms are comfortable and traditional. Though the hotel appears large from the outside, it’s comparatively one of the smallest in Crystal City. This means fewer guest rooms on each floor, shorter corridors and walks from the elevator, and overall a quieter experience. The fitness suite and concierge lounge are both located on the top floor with fine views of the area. I partook in both during my stay. I must admit, the breakfast served in the lounge, while not as full as the buffet in the restaurant, is nearly as good. They also serve refreshments and snacks in the evening if you’re lucky enough to be on the concierge floor.
Perhaps the best feature here is that it’s less than two blocks to the metro. It’s a convenient jaunt to downtown and even more convenient to get to and from the metro without messing with an expensive cab. For a super convenient hotel that delivers on its service promise, the Sheraton Crystal City is just that!
